NPL star & Golden Boot winner earns A-Leagues return with Canberra United

Canberra United have signed former Melbourne Victory forward Maja Markovski for the 2024-25 Ninja A-League season.

A two-time A-Leagues champion with Victory before leaving at the end of 2022-23, Markovski returns to the competition after sweeping a whole host of NPL awards in 2024.

Markovski won the NPLW VIC Golden Boot with 20 goals for premiers Bulleen Lions, while the 22-year-old was also named the NPLW VIC Gold Medallist and Media Player of the Year.

“I am extremely excited about the opportunity to come to Canberra and play for United,” Markovski said.

“The club has a good reputation amongst players throughout the A-League, particularly the home ground and the supporter base.

“I am looking forward to joining up with my new teammates and getting the opportunity to train with them and to enhance my game under Antoni (Jagarinec) and his coaching staff. I can’t wait to get started.”

Markovski became a fan favourite during her three seasons at her childhood club, scoring three goals in 34 appearances for Victory.

She is the latest signing at Canberra, after Sally JamesElizabeth AntonAideen KeaneJynaya Dos SantosDarcey Malone and Bethany Gordon.

Meanwhile, CommBank Matildas star Michelle Heyman, Ruby NathanHayley Taylor-YoungSofia Christopherson, Holly Murray, Mary Stanic-Floody and Tegan Bertolissio have also re-signed.

“Maja comes to the club having been very successful in the top-tier Victorian NPL where she was amongst the goals and was a very creative influence for FC Bulleen Lions,” said head coach Antoni Jagarinec.

“Maja also has extensive A-League experience having shown her quality with Melbourne Victory.

“As with most of the signings we were looking at for this season, Maja fits the profile of being a young player who has played plenty of A-League matches and has the quality to succeed at this level.”
