Canberra United sign A-Leagues champion who is ‘what the modern-day footballer should be’

SharkNinja, a global product design and technology company, will power the Ninja A-League and will work with the APL to elevate the women’s game to even greater heights.

Canberra United have prised Ninja A-League champion Aideen Keane to the nation’s capital ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Keane makes the move to Canberra from Sydney FC, where the attacker got her hands on the Championship last season.

The 22-year-old made 14 appearances for the Sky Blues last term, scoring one goal.

“I am delighted to be signing for Canberra United and continuing my football education with such a great team in the National Capital,” Keane said.

“Canberra is a great city, and I have always enjoyed playing against the team as they always try and play good football.

“I had very productive talks with the coaching staff about where they see me fitting into the environment, and I am excited to be able to get to Canberra and begin the nest stage of my career.”

Keane began her career with Western Sydney Wanderers as an 18-year-old in 2020-21.

She has also spent two seasons at Perth glory.

Keane is Canberra’s third signing after Sally James and Elizabeth Anton.

Meanwhile, the club have also re-signed A-Leagues legend and CommBank Matildas striker Michelle HeymanRuby NathanHayley Taylor-YoungSofia Christopherson and Holly Murray.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Aideen to Canberra United for the new season,” said head coach Antoni Jagarinec.

“Aideen is a high-quality player who encompasses exactly what the modern-day footballer should be. She has a great work rate, is comfortable on the ball, and can time her tackles well.

“As a player who has played in the competition since making her debut in 2020-21, Aideen understands the demands of the league, and I am sure that she will be an excellent acquisition for the club.”
