Brisbane Roar suffer injury blow to key defender

In a huge blow for Brisbane Roar, defender Luke DeVere is set for a stint on the sidelines due to a knee injury.

A report in the Courier Mail newspaper on Wednesday revealed DeVere could miss at least 10 weeks with a grade two medial ligament strain.

The burly defender suffered the injury in the first half of Roar’s 3-3 draw with Wellington Phoenix on Saturday.

“He’s disappointed because he’s had such a bad stretch of injuries,” Roar coach John Aloisi said in the Courier Mail.

“It’s very unfortunate for him.”

Roar has endured a horror run with injuries so far in the 2017/18 Season.

Left-back Corey Brown is also on the sidelines with a hamstring problem, while Daniel Bowles continues his rehab from a knee reconstruction.

Danish midfielder Thomas Kristensen has also yet to play this season as he comes back from a hamstring injury.

Aloisi hasn’t ruled out brining in an injury-replacement for DeVere as he looks to bolster his defensive options.

Roar, who have yet to register a win this season, host Central Coast Mariners at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.
