Brisbane Roar’s Bhausaheb Bandodkar Memorial Trophy campaign came to an end following a 2-1 semi-final loss to Odisha FC on Tuesday.
Thomas Waddingham scored for the Roar, who succumbed to a Hugo Boumous brace at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in their final match of the pre-season tour in India.
Teenage young gun Waddingham, who shared the club’s Golden Boot with seven goals in a memorable debut A-Leagues season last term, ended the tournament with three goals after reducing the deficit against Odisha FC.

One of two invitees along with Argentine Primera Division club Defensa y Justicia, Brisbane were placed in Group A of the eight-team tournament to face FC Goa, Dempo SC and Sporting Goa.
In their opening match, Waddingham scored twice in the 5-1 rout of Dempo SC. New signing Walid Shour was also on target, as was Jay O’Shea and Jez Lofthouse.

After a 1-0 loss to FC Goa, Brisbane booked their spot in the semis thanks to goals via Louis Zabala and Harry van der Saag as 16-year-old defender Lucas Herrington made his debut. Youth-team stars Ivan Ozzi and James Durrington also started.

“The hospitality here has been brilliant, it’s been a really good football exercise for my team and my staff and my players,” Roar head coach Ruben Zadkovich reflected.
“We’ve got a lot of learning moments which is great, some things to work on, which is great and some things to focus on.
“To the Indian people and especially the ones that have been looking after us at the hotel and travel, all of you guys the media and all the people around the stadium the fans we’ve met a lot of lovely people really good, people and the football culture in Goa is very strong so we’re very appreciative of that, we’re very grateful.”

Brisbane will now turn their attention to Round 1 of the Isuzu UTE A-League – a trip to debutants Auckland FC on October 19.
