Confirmed: Bouzanis departs City for Europe

Melbourne City has confirmed goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis is on his way to Europe to finalise a loan move for the 2018/19 Season.

The 27-year-old, who was once on the books of English club Liverpool, was City’s number one for most of last season making 21 appearances in the Hyundai A-League.

He kept seven clean sheets and conceded just 26 goals as Warren Joyce’s side finished third and fell just one game short of the Grand Final.

But a desire to return to Europe and continue his development as a keeper has led to Bouzanis opting to seek a loan move abroad.

In all, he played 46 games for the club after joining City from Western Sydney Wanderers midway through the 2015/16 Season.

City have a ready-made replacement in veteran Hyundai A-League shot-stopper Eugene Galekovic who is already on the books.

The club has also been linked heavily with former Newcastle Jets keeper Mark Birighitti, who is currently playing in the Netherlands with NAC Breda.
