Goalkeeper Clint Bolton believes the pressure is firmly on Melbourne Heart to perform on their two-week road trip after their first-up loss against Central Coast.
Heart face Newcastle away on Friday night and then Adelaide away the week after in a tough opening to their life as a Hyundai A-League club. Bolton said the pressure was on the team to adapt to each other and their competition quickly or risk falling off the mark.
“I think I feel more pressure coming from the loss only because we are a new team and results are important. It-s not the longest season and to start off poorly, it-s hard to get back” he said.
“There’s been a lot of work put in off the park by the club, with people behind the scenes and the lead up last week, exposure was everywhere. To capitalise on that, we have to produce on the park and if we don-t that interest will go away, simple.”
“Personally I feel like I want to play my part on the park, so that this club is a success. That’s where the pressure come sin. One loss is fine, but of you start backing up with losses, it becomes a build up of pressure and that’s tough.”
Meanwhile, Bolton said skipper Simon Colosimo has emerged as key confidant for Melbourne Heart coach John van ‘t Schip as the Dutchman looks to get his head around the Hyundai A-League.
Bolton has revealed that Colosimo is proving the major sounding board for van ‘t Schip early in his tenure with the fledgling club and that the captain has not been scared to give advice back, especially when it comes to opposition teams.
“Schimma (Colosimo) and the coach are like that,” Bolton said crossing his fingers.”Schimma probably goes to him and tells him what he thinks more than the coach coming to Simon.”
“There’s definitely plenty of information coming across to the coach about the other teams because he’s new to the country and Simon and the other boys have been about for a while. We’re certainly, where need be, we-re giving him pointers here and there.”
