Birighitti to miss Sydney clash

Newcastle Jets will be without Mark Birighitti for their week two clash with Sydney FC, after the independent Match Review Panel (MRP) upheld the goalkeeper-s sending off against Adelaide.

Birighitti was shown a straight red after he ran out of his area to block a chip from Adelaide United striker Dario Vidosic, with the ball hitting his leg, then arm, as he attempted to smother the shot.

The MRP backed referee Ben Williams-s decision, meaning, barring an appeal from the Jets, Birighitti will serve a one-match suspension when the Jets travel down to Allianz Stadium to face Sydney in what is expected to be a huge crowd.
