Berisha and Kerr: How does the A-Leagues stack up to Lewandowski’s historic hat-trick?

Robert Lewandowski made UEFA Champions League history with Bayern Munich this week.

The Bayern talisman scored the fastest hat-trick in the history of Europe’s premier club competition – bagging a treble inside the opening 23 minutes against Salzburg.

Lewandowski’s treble surpassed Marco Simone’s 24-minute hat-trick for Milan against Rosenborg in 1996.

In terms of minutes between goals, Lewandowski’s hat-trick came in an 11-minute span.

So, it got us thinking at KEEPUP: how does the A-Leagues stack up against Lewandowski’s record-breaking haul?

Berisha was unstoppable with four goals in Brisbane’s demolition of visiting Adelaide in 2011.

Step aside Lewy, Besart Berisha and Sam Kerr have you covered.

The all-time leading goalscorer in the Isuzu UTE A-League, Berisha holds the record for the quickest hat-trick in the A-League Men with just five minutes between goals.

Berisha set the record in Brisbane Roar’s thumping 7-1 win over Adelaide United in October 2011.

Amid a run of 31-games unbeaten under Ange Postecoglou – which the Roar would go on to set the Australian sport record and win the championship – new signing Berisha put on a show with three goals before the half-hour mark, having put Brisbane ahead in the 23rd minute.

Maclaren holds up three fingers after netting his hat-trick for the Roar against Central Coast in 2017.

Former Roar, Melbourne Victory and Western United striker Berisha finished the rout with four goals.

Next on the ALM list is Socceroos forward Jamie Maclaren, who needed just eight minutes to complete his three-goal haul for the Roar against Central Coast Mariners in April 2017.

Then there’s superstar Matildas captain Kerr.

Now with Women’s Super League powerhouse Chelsea, Kerr dazzled with Perth Glory in the A-League Women before making the big move abroad.

Kerr celebrates her three-goal performance away to the Jets in the ALW almost five years ago.

Kerr was irresistible in the closing stages of Perth’s 3-3 draw with Newcastle Jets in December 2017, scoring a nine-minute hat-trick.
