An honest Fahid Ben Khalfallah says the players must take responsibility for Brisbane Roar’s poor form following the 3-0 home defeat to Sydney FC.
Roar lost for the fourth successive match at Suncorp Stadium and remain four points adrift of sixth-placed Western Sydney Wanderers despite playing two additional matches.
Ben Khalfallah pointed to Bobo’s opening goal, when the Brazilian got ahead of two markers to convert Milos Ninkovic’s low delivery, as symptomatic of the team’s troubles.
“I don’t want to criticise but it’s hard. There is only one player in the box and he scores,” Ben Khalfallah told Fox Sports.
“We have to look in the mirror because that’s not good enough. It’s ridiculous.
“It’s just the players – we have to do more. The staff, everyone [else] is amazing.
“We lost at home last week, we lose again and I’m done with that. We can’t accept that. We have to work harder.
“We have good players and great staff but that’s not enough unfortunately.”
Ben Khalfallah admitted the task was made more difficult by Brisbane’s crippling injury list, which features the likes of Brett Holman, Matt McKay, Jade North and Ivan Franjic.
“It’s not the same quality. That’s a fact,” he said.
“Hopefully we can get some players back [for Friday’s trip to Newcastle] and we’ll be better.”
