Original Rivalry headlines two huge Australia Cup semis as final four & key dates locked in

The 2024 Australia Cup semi-final matchups have been confirmed after Melbourne Victory and Macarthur FC joined Adelaide United and South Melbourne in the final four on Saturday.

Victory progressed to the semi-finals in style, scoring three first-half goals to set up a 4-0 win over NPLM QLD side Moreton City Excelsior at Perry Park.

Macarthur, meanwhile, faced a far greater challenge against NPLM VIC champions Oakleigh Cannons in their quarter-final on Saturday; Valere Germain’s second-minute strike was the only goal of the game as the Bulls kept a relentless Oakleigh at bay to scrape through to the semis.

Valere Germain was the solitary goalscorer in Macarthur’s 1-0 win over Oakleigh.

Following the conclusion of the quarter-finals, Football Australia (FA) has locked in the final four matchups and there’s an Original Rivalry on the cards, with Melbourne Victory set to host Adelaide on Saturday, September 21, kicking off at 7.30pm AEST.

NPLM Victoria outfit South Melbourne will welcome Macarthur to Lakeside Stadium on the following day, with kick-off at 6pm AEST on Sunday, September 22. As the only NPL club remaining in the competition, South Melbourne hope to progress to the final where there’s potential for an all-Victorian title decider against Victory.

South Melbourne celebrate their quarter-final win over Hume City.

But toppling previous Australia Cup winners Macarthur will be no easy feat for South Melbourne; the Bulls won the tournament in 2022 – the only other year the club has reached the semi-finals in the competition’s history. Mile Sterjovski’s side will take plenty of confidence from the fact as they travel to Victoria in the final four.

The two semi-final winners will progress to the Australia Cup final, set to be played on Saturday, October 5. You can watch all the action live and free on 10 Play.
