Sydney FC Head Coach Graham Arnold has called for a greater execution from his squad ahead of Saturday’s clash at Allianz Stadium against Perth (kick off 7:50pm AEDT).
Sydney FC boss Graham Arnold has confirmed he wants to strengthen his squad with an Asian player to boost his side for their AFC Champions League campaign.
The Hyundai A-League champions begin their ACL sojourn in February and are able to sign an Asian player outside the salary cap via the ACL’s 3+1 rule.
The Sky Blues have four imports on their books – Bobo, Milos Ninkovic, Jordy Buijs and Adrian Mierzejewski – meaning one of them will be trimmed from their ACL squad.
“We’ve got a plus one in an Asian foreigner available and that can be outside the salary cap,” Arnold told reporters on Friday.
“So we’re looking to strengthen the squad with an Asian to help with the Champions League program.”
“We’re looking for someone with pace and someone who can change the game.
“We’re always looking but it’s whether you can get them here or not.”
The immediate focus for Arnold and his side is Saturday night’s clash with Perth Glory at Allianz Stadium.
The Sky Blues are currently sitting five points clear at the top of the ladder having lost just once this season.
And Arnold has set his record-breaking squad the task of eclipsing last season’s points tally of 66 on their win to the Premiership-Championship double.
“We’re expecting to win tomorrow night, we will win tomorrow night,” Arnold said.
“I truly believe, and the belief in the players I’ve got, is that we’re going to have a greater season than what we had last year of 66 points.
“That’s our goal, to beat that, at this moment we’re 31 from 36 and it’s about being 34 from 39 tomorrow.”
Sydney FC won the previous clash between these two sides earlier this season 2-0, thanks to penalties from Bobo and Mierzejewski.
