Adelaide United striker Archie Goodwin has earned the December nomination for Boost Mobile Young Footballer of the Year, after a stellar month in his debut season at the Reds.

The 20-year-old joined Adelaide ahead of the 2024-25 Isuzu UTE A-League season and, after an injury-impacted four-season stint at Newcastle Jets, the Young Socceroos striker has already played more match minutes in 10 games for Adelaide than he managed through the entirety of the 2023-24 campaign.

Now fully fit, Goodwin is firing on all cylinders and enjoyed a goal-laden December having beaten fellow young forward Luka Jovanovic in the race to become head coach Carl Veart’s starting striker at the Reds.

Goodwin played four games in December and enjoyed a three-game run in which he bagged four goals, including a brace in a 3-3 draw with Sydney FC in Round 9.

The Isuzu UTE A-League Boost Mobile Young Footballer of the Year award is an annual prize awarded to the competition’s best young player from either Australia or New Zealand aged 23 and under; this season, players born no earlier than January 1 2001 are eligible for the award.

Goodwin was named Boost Mobile Young Footballer of the Year December nominee via a panel appointed by the Australian Professional Leagues (APL).

The panel features an assortment of media representatives and technical football experts, who vote on a 3-2-1 basis at the conclusion of each nominated monthly period throughout the season.

Goodwin and the Reds sit second on the Isuzu UTE A-League table after a 2-1 win over Macarthur Bulls on Monday night.

Adelaide are next in action on Saturday, January 11 in an away clash with Wellington Phoenix at Sky Stadium.
