Incoming APL CEO Steve Rosich speaks to Michael Zappone ahead of the Melbourne Derby

Freshly installed APL CEO Steve Rosich outlined his vision for football and the A-Leagues ahead of tonight’s Melbourne Derby in a pitch side interview with Michael Zappone.

APL CEO STEVE ROSICH:

“I’m delighted to take on the role, I’ve been lucky enough to be in elite sport for 25 years, 16 as a CEO,” Rosich said.

Rosich’s background includes CEO stints at the Fremantle Dockers in the AFL and the Victoria Racing Club.

“There’s a lot of strengths to really build upon, the greatest of which is this is the most popular sport in the world, [there are] more participants in football than any other sport,” Rosich said.

“All the other sports are looking at that, and I think we really want to harness that and grow this league.”

Rosich also broadly outlined his plan to help improve the A-Leagues.

“Harnessing those strengths… bringing the ecosystem together and driving the growth of the sport and the league,” he said.

Rosich was slightly more coy on his tip for the game.

“My tip is 2-1,” he grinned.

“…for the better team on the night!”

Currently Melbourne-based, Rosich will move to Sydney in the New Year to take up the CEO role officially from January 5, 2026.
