Brisbane Roar re-sign homegrown midfielder bound for U20 World Cup with Young Matildas

Brisbane Roar have secured Queensland midfielder Alicia Woods on a fresh one-season contract ahead of the 2024-25 Liberty A-League campaign.

The 20-year-old impressed in her first season at the Roar, having earned her first opportunity in the Liberty A-League under Brisbane head coach Alex Smith – Woods’ coach at NPLW QLD club Peninsula Power prior to her shot in the top flight.

Woods is a CommBank Young Matildas regular having represented Australia at the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup in March, and has been selected in the age-group squad for the upcoming FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia in September.

“I’m pumped to be re-signing for Roar this season,” Woods said.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to play for this club, so I’m honoured to be out there again.

“I enjoyed the environment so much last year, and I think this year will be even more competitive, I’m keen to see just how far we can go.”

Woods is the third player to have re-signed for Brisbane ahead of the upcoming Liberty A-League season, alongside Sharn Freier and Keeley Richards. Head coach Smith has added new signings Danelle Tan, Zara KrugerEvdokia Popadinova, Emily Pringle and Tanaye Morris to his squad whilst Ayesha NorrieHollie Palmer, Mia Corbin and Leah Scarpelli have all departed the club.
