Smith earned a nomination for the December award via Football Coaches Australia’s monthly nomination process.
Australian Professional Leagues (APL) partnered with FCA in 2022-23 to give fans a crucial say in recognising outstanding coaching performances across both the Ninja A-League Women and Isuzu UTE A-League Men.
The FCA assembled an experienced panel who together decide the monthly nominees for Coach of the Month in both leagues; a fan vote then decides the winner from the monthly nominees.
The December eligibility period included Rounds 5-8 of the Ninja A-League season, with results between November 30 and December 29 considered by the FCA Panel when voting for the Coach of the Month nominees.
Smith oversaw four games throughout the eligibility period, registering three wins and one defeat. Brisbane scored 17 goals in those four games and conceded six, with a 6-1 win over Newcastle Jets and an 8-2 win over Western United the standout results of a stellar month for Smith’s side.
Brisbane are next in action on Wednesday, January 8 when they take on Melbourne Victory at Perry Park.
