MATCH REPORT: Logarzo’s birthday goal fires Western United to impressive victory over league leaders Perth
A brilliant birthday goal from Chloe Logarzo has fired Western United to an impressive 1-0 victory over league leaders Perth Glory at City Vista Recreation Reserve.
Logarzo’s 19th Liberty A-League goal was the difference between the two sides, firing an inch-perfect effort from the edge of the area to give Western an important three points on Friday evening.
Western had the lion’s share of the chances and could have put the result beyond doubt before half-time, hitting the post twice among a myriad of missed opportunities.
However, Kat Smith’s side won’t be complaining after bouncing back from last weekend’s disappointing loss to Newcastle Jets, by taking home all three points and climbing into fifth on the standings thanks to Logarzo’s strike on her 29th birthday.
Meanwhile, the loss means Perth have only won one of their last five games and will drop off the top of the standings regardless of the result in tomorrow’s Derby between second placed Melbourne City and third placed Melbourne Victory.

MATCH REPORT: Vine strikes in clash of Matildas as Sky Blues, Roar share the spoils
Matildas World Cup star Cortnee Vine scored her second goal in as many games to rescue a point against Brisbane Roar at Leichhardt Oval on Friday night.
Vine lined up against Matildas teammate Tameka Yallop in the Liberty A-League clash, and both players had chances to bag all three points for their respective sides after Ashlee Brodigan’s stunning opener for the Roar and Vine’s equaliser late in the first half.
A point for each side helped neither Sydney or Brisbane strengthen their grip on a top-six spot; the Roar sit eighth after nine games and the Sky Blues sixth, with further games on Saturday capable of pushing both teams further down the Liberty A-League table.
Adelaide United 3-1 Newcastle Jets (Isuzu UTE A-League) – Coopers Stadium

MATCH REPORT: Adelaide roar back into form with comprehensive victory over Newcastle
Adelaide United have snapped a three game losing streak by recording a much-needed 3-1 victory over Newcastle Jets at Coopers Stadium.
Hiroshi Ibusuki marked his return to the starting lineup by opening the scoring on Friday night, before Zach Clough and Ben Halloran found the net in the second-half.
Jets youngster Justin Vidic fired home his first senior goal, but it was merely a consolation as Adelaide held on to the all three points in their 500th Isuzu UTE A-League match.
The victory fires the Reds back into the top six for the time being, with Carl Veart’s side sitting in sixth for the time being, two points clear of Central Coast Mariners and Melbourne City; the latter who are in action tomorrow in the Derby.
Newcastle, meanwhile, sit four points outside the top six, unable to build off the momentum generated in the fortnight prior to their trip to Adelaide.
In a further blow for the Jets, they will be sweating on the fitness of Reno Piscopo after he was forced off the field with a suspected groin injury in the first-half.
