Melbourne City have bolstered their squad ahead of their 2024-25 Premiership defence with news American defender Taylor Otto has signed a new one-year deal.

“I immediately felt right at home as soon as I arrived last season,” said Otto after putting pen-to-paper on her new contract. “Which shows just how great the culture is at Melbourne City.

“I had so much fun being part of this amazing group of girls and I’m so proud that we were able to win the Premier’s Plate for our fans.

“I’m really excited to get back into training and looking forward to testing ourselves against the very best in Asia. The season can’t come soon enough.”

Now locked in for the upcoming campaign, Otto will once again form a key pillar at the heart of a City side which will also make their AFC Women’s Champions League debut later this year.

“Taylor fit in seamlessly during her first season at City and we’re delighted to have her returning to the Club,” said City head coach Dario Vidosic.

“Her partnership with Stotty was crucial to our success last season, and it’s vital that we keep that same stability going into such an important campaign both here at home, and in Asia.”

That partnership with Rebekah Stott certainly proved to be a formidable one, with the duo keeping five clean sheets in their final seven games of the season in a run which ultiamtely saw them clinch the Premiership – their first piece of silverware since 2020.

The 26-year-old is the club’s first re-signing of the off-season and the American joins the likes of Stott, Rhianna Pollicina and Leah Davidson who are all still contracted to the club.

With Otto now locked in for season 2024-25 Vidosic and co will now look to add goals to their squad ahead of the new campaign following the departure of the club’s all-time leading goalscorer Hannah Wilkinson, who departed following the completion of her contract.
