The Price is right! dramatic late goal snaps Wanderers’ Ninja A-League drought

Western Sydney Wanderers’ eight-game winless run is finally over after Olivia Price’s 88th-minute winner saw them defeat Brisbane Roar 1-0 in the Ninja A-League at Spencer Park.

In what was a frenetic start to the game, both sides had a series of chances to break the deadlock, with CommBank Matilda Grace Kuilamu forcing an early save out of Wanderers keeper Sham Khamis.

Wanderers skipper Amy Harrison was inches away from netting a goal of the season contender as she attempted to lob keeper Chloe Lincoln from near halfway, while Korean import Kim Soeun caused plenty of problems for the home side.

Restricted in the first half, Roar’s Dutch star Bente Jansen bent a curling shot narrowly wide of the far post after forging out time and space inside the box.

However, after surviving a brief Brisbane onslaught, the Wanderers then stunned the league leaders in the 88th minute as Price was in the right place to tap home from close range after good work from defender Ella Buchanan inside the Roar box.

SUNDAY WRAP: International star sidelined with injury as Wellington held by Jets

The win sees Geoff Abrahams’ side secure their first victory since February whilst also keeping a first clean sheet in 27 games.

Meanwhile, the shock 1-0 loss is Brisbane Roar’s first defeat of the season.
