Brisbane Roar are back in the Isuzu UTE A-League winners circle after thrashing Newcastle Jets 3-0 on the Sunshine Coast.
Played out in front of a packed crowd at Sunshine Coast Stadium, young Roar defender Lucas Herrington opened the scoring in the 31st minute as he escaped his marker at a corner before heading home Georgios Vrakas’ pinpoint delivery.
The Jets wasted a glorious opportunity to restore parity early in the second half; forward Will Dobson attempted a lob over Roar keeper Dean Bouzanis after being put through on goal, however the 18-year-old’s effort lacked the requisite precision or power.

Michael Valkanis’ side thought they’d added a second with 20 minutes left to play as substitute Henry Hore fired home from close range; however, that strike was ruled out for an offside call on Michael Ruhs earlier in the move, thus letting the Jets off the hook.
The side asking all the questions, Brisbane did eventually add a second to their tally and it came from the boot of captain Jay O’Shea; Jets defender Aleksandar Susnjar brought down Hore inside the box and O’Shea duly thumped home the spot-kick to make it 2-0.

17-year-old substitute Quinn MacNicol then helped put the icing on the cake in the 89th minute. Timing his run to perfection, MacNicol raced onto a ball in behind the Jets defence before unleashing a powerful shot which cannoned off the post and into goalkeeper James Delianov, with the keeper ultimately credited with an own goal as the ball nestled into the back of the net.
The result moves the Roar up into fourth on the Isuzu UTE A-League ladder, while Newcastle Jets now sit 10th on the ladder having conceded 12 goals in just four games.
