Adelaide United re-sign local product with ‘a bright future’

Adelaide United’s Jay Barnett has signed a three-year contract extension with the Isuzu UTE A-League high-flyers.

The South Australian product’s renewal will keep him at Coopers Stadium until at least the end of the 2027-28 season.

Barnett, who joined Adelaide in 2023 from rivals Melbourne Victory, has established himself as a key member of Carl Veart’s squad since returning to South Australia.

The 23-year-old midfielder has made 16 A-Leagues appearances for the Reds, and 18 across all competitions.

“I’m really proud and excited to extend my time at Adelaide United,” Barnett said.

“This club means so much to me, and to be able to represent my hometown on the pitch for the next few years is something very special.

“I’ve felt at home here since day one, and I’m looking forward to continuing to develop with this incredible team. There’s a lot of potential at this club, and I’m excited for what lies ahead.”

Adelaide are second in the standings, only adrift of Melbourne City on goal difference with a game in hand ahead of Saturday’s blockbuster Original Rivalry against Victory at Coopers Stadium.
