Adelaide United head coach Carl Veart said “I just don’t see how that’s a red card” after Ben Folami was sent off in Saturday night’s Isuzu UTE A-League win over Newcastle Jets.
The Reds star was dismissed in the 64th minute after making contact to the face of Newcastle defender Phillip Cancar as the two players tussled in a heated moment.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Adelaide held on for maximum points to make it six matches without defeat to start the season – their best beginning to a campaign since 2014-15.
After the game, Veart was asked about Folami’s red card.

“I’ve only quickly saw it but for VAR to step in for something like that, I think it’s where the game is going to, that’s not where we want it to go to,” Veart told Paramount+.
“There was no real intent there. No force there. I just can’t see how that’s violent conduct.”
Veart, whose Adelaide moved up to second in the table thanks to Stefan Mauk’s 14th-minute goal, added: “I think we have to protect players but I don’t think there was any intent there to do any harm. I just don’t see how that’s a red card.
“But I’m sure we will get an explanation.”
