Following further assessment, the club has now confirmed Goodwin suffered a significant groin injury during the Round 16 clash.

Whilst surgery is not required to correct the issue, Goodwin is set to be sidelined for up to 12 weeks, putting his hopes of playing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in serious doubt.

The 32-time Australian international’s last appearance for the Socceroos came during the 1-0 loss to Venezuela in November 2025.

The news comes as a huge blow for Adelaide United who currently sit sixth on the Isuzu UTE A-League ladder, one point ahead of seventh placed Melbourne City.

The Reds have 10 matches remaining this season, meaning Goodwin’s season could be over unless Adelaide qualify for the 2025-26 Finals Series.
