Adelaide United coach Marco Kurz is encouraged by his side’s defiance of their young years in bidding to become the Hyundai A-League’s benchmark team.
Already the competition’s youngest squad, Adelaide lost further experience for their trip to Wellington as captain Isaias joined Johan Absalonsen and Baba Diawara on the sideline.
But a first half goal from George Blackwood sealed an efficient 1-0 victory that moved the Reds to within a point of fourth-placed Melbourne Victory.
“The team spirit is very good. They fight for success, they are hungry for success,” Kurz told Sky Sport NZ.
“We had two experienced players on the pitch in Ersan Gulum and Daniel Adlung and the rest is a group of boys.
“I’m very proud of the performance. We played very compact, very disciplined and fought for every ball. I think the result is correct.”
Despite his side’s eagerness to challenge for silverware, Kurz insists Adelaide won’t be getting ahead of themselves.
“We look game per game. We are on the right way and it’s a process always for the young boys,” he said.
“Today was a very important game for both teams and it’s very good to take three points back from Wellington.
“Now we have a long week to practice and get the boys fit for the game against Perth.”
