Mariners bolster squad ahead of Liberty A-League return with arrival of ex-Fiorentina defender

Central Coast Mariners have announced the signing of American defender Jazmin Wardlow ahead of the upcoming Liberty A-League season.

Wardlow joins the club after making 21 appearances for La Viola in the 2022-23 campaign, helping them to a fourth place finish in Serie A, before playing locally in Victoria’s VPLW with Brunswick Juventus where she helped them secure promotion to the top flight.

Prior to her arrival, the defender was selected with pick 21 by Houston Dash in the 2019 NWSL draft, becoming the first player to be drafted from the University of Oregon – after initially lining up for Santa Clara University.

Wardlow then moved to Europe, playing for Serbian SuperLiga champions ZFK Spartak Subotica, where she made her UEFA Women’s Champions League debut that very season.

“I am super excited to be able to play for the Central Coast this season. I wish we were
already starting; I am looking forward to meeting all of my teammates,” Wardlow said.

“Speaking to Emily it just made the decision to sign for the Coast super easy. I felt so much
love and support from her and Shaun which is amazing being so far from home.

“As a footballer I am extremely passionate, physical, technical, tactical, hard working and a great leader. I honestly just can’t wait to get started.”

The 25-year-old is the Mariners second visa signing ahead of their return to the Liberty A-League, joining fellow American Rola Badawiya.

She is the club’s 11th signing ahead of the new season, which gets underway on October 14 against Newcastle Jets at Industree Group Stadium.

“I am very excited to be able to welcome Jazmin to the Coast. She will be a really good
addition to the group that we are building ahead of the upcoming season,” Husband said.

“She has a lot of flexibility in where we can play her, which is great for our versatility. She
has a fantastic left foot, a brilliant engine as well as good attacking and defensive output.
She brings experience to this team which will be huge for us this season.”
