Western Sydney Wanderers coach responds to transfer link with Socceroo

Western Sydney Wanderers head coach Alen Stajcic said the Isuzu UTE A-League club are looking to bolster their squad “in a number of positions” amid transfer speculation.

With the transfer window opening on January 16 and closing on February 12, the Wanderers have been linked to Subway Socceroos defender and former Melbourne Victory centre-back Thomas Deng following his departure from J1 League side Albirex Niigata in Japan.

Fellow Australia international Milos Degenek has also reportedly emerged as a possible target after leaving Serbian champions Crvena Zvezda.

When asked about the transfer window ahead of Tuesday’s reunion with Perth Glory, Stajcic smiled and said: “There are a lot of rumours in football isn’t there?

“Nah, we’re looking to bolster the squad in a number of positions and give us a little bit more depth. We’re a bit down in depth at the moment and depleted.

“Bring in a couple of players will definitely give us a welcome boost to the depth within the squad moving forward for the rest of the season.”
