Canberra United have announced the return of New Zealand international Elizabeth Anton for the Ninja A-League 2025-26 season.
Fresh off a season with Norwegian Toppserien side Kolbotn IL Fotball, the centre-back returns to the Australian capital after a debut season in Green last term.
“We’re absolutely delighted to have Liz back with us for the rest of the season,” said head coach Antoni Jagarinec.
“Liz was a massive part of our success last season, and our push to make final. She was a key part of our defensive set-up and established herself as a real leader in the team in her short time amongst the squad.”
Hitting the ground running upon her arrival last season, Anton quickly became a fan favourite, and used her experience and leadership to help guide the team, often wearing the captain’s armband in the absence of legendary striker Michelle Heyman.
Anton’s performances through her 19 games with the club, saw her take out the Player of the Year award for the 2024-25 season, with the New Zealand international scoring for the club in a Round 14 win Perth Glory.
“Pulling on the famous Green jersey last year was incredibly special and I couldn’t be happier to return to Canberra United for the rest of the season,” said Anton.
“Wearing the captain’s armband and being named as Player of The Year by the coaches was a massive honour and something that I’ll cherish forever.
“I can’t wait to get back training with the girls and working hard to get the team into finals again this season.”
