A-Leagues young gun swaps Melbourne Victory for Europe

Melbourne Victory star Alana Murphy has departed the Ninja A-League Grand Finalists for SD Sand in Germany.

Murphy, who earned her first CommBank Matildas cap in 2025, swaps Victory for second-tier outfit Sand in the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga.

The 19-year-old played more than 75 matches for Victory after arriving in 2021, scoring four goals and supplying 10 assists while earning the club’s Young Player of the Year Award.

“As a central midfielder, she impresses with her excellent passing game and remarkably high tactical understanding, especially considering her young age,” said Sand’s sporting director Sascha Reiß.

“These qualities have already enabled her to make her first appearances for the Australian national team.

“At Sand, we want to support her on her further path so that she can continue to develop and successfully establish herself in German women’s football.”
