A-League Save of Matchweek 8 – James Delianov

Adelaide United goalkeeper James Delianov’s reactionary block to deny Macarthur FC defender Aleksandar Jovanovic has emerged as the best save of Matchweek 8.

Despite conceding four goals to the Bulls, Delianov fought valiantly in goal and produced a series of stellar stops to prevent a 4-0 defeat from becoming any worse.

Delianov’s best save of the night came when the Reds were under the most pressure, with less than 10 minutes to play and Macarthur two goals to the good.

But Jovanovic – in search of his second goal in as many games – was unable to join the party after Delianov denied the defender from a well-worked corner routine.

The neat variation from Macarthur saw a series of passes send Tommy Oar dribbling into the box. With the tall timber still forward for the corner, Oar cut the ball to Jovanovic who struck first-time toward goal.

Delianov had Reds teammates Ben Halloran and George Timotheou in his way and spotted the ball late, but still managed to get down to his right to get a strong glove on the shot and send the ball away from the danger zone.
