Adam Federici earned Save of Matchweek 7 honours for his triple effort in Macarthur FC’s manic defensive scramble against Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday night.
The Socceroos shot-stopper sparked the moment which went viral with a sharp save to deny Wanderers forward Bruce Kamau a near-certain goal.
But Federici’s work wasn’t done yet. The Bulls gloveman got to his feet and raced to meet the ball bouncing toward his goal line. A desperate leap hurled Federici into Kamau, who then fell into the net under pressure from Macarthur defender James Meredith.
Somehow, the ball remained untouched by the three players. Still finding its way toward the line, Federici quickly got to his feet to dive back into play, lunging to push the ball to the left of goal. Simon Cox arrived on the scene but his shot hit his own man, and Tate Russell collected the rebound only to hammer his shot off the bar.
It was a moment of pure chaos which somehow ended without a Wanderers goal, giving Federici an unrivalled claim for Save of Matchweek 7.
