Paramount+ commentator Andy Harper has sent the rumour mill spilling, with “very hot mail” that Adelaide United phenom Nestory Irankunda is a target of German giants Bayern Munich.
Harper’s bombshell claim came during the broadcast of Sydney FC’s home clash with Newcastle Jets at Allianz Stadium on Saturday afternoon; Harper revealed to fellow Paramount+ commentator Robbie Thomson he’d received news the 17-year-old forward had caught the eye of one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
The teenager has bagged eight A-League Men goals since his debut as a 15-year-old, and has yet to make a start in the A-League Men – but, after a recent call-up to Graham Arnold’s Socceroos squad, is quickly emerging as one of the hottest prospects in Australian football.
“We’re getting to that silly season chat. I’m going to add some now. Nestory Irankunda to Bayern Munich. Very hot mail,” Harper said.
“Reliable source?” Co-commentator Thomson quipped.
“As reliable as I can find around the place… because of his age, he will have another season in Adelaide but this is what I’ve heard around the traps,” Harper responded.
Irankunda wrote headlines in Round 25 of the A-League Men season, scoring a 99th-minute equaliser in Adelaide’s 4-4 draw with Perth Glory. It was the goal that took him past former Red Mohamed Toure as the player with the most goals in A-League Men history prior to turning 18.
