Melbourne City v Western United

Tuesday, January 7 – AAMI Park – 6:00pm AEDT

MATCH CENTRE | BUY TICKETS | HOW TO WATCH

Tuesday evening will not only see a battle between two Victorian teams but two in-form sides boasting an array of academy graduates at AAMI Park for the Round 17 contest.

Melbourne City and Western United have both collected 18 points, though the former are fourth and with a game in hand heading into the fixture.

City are in the midst of a five-match unbeaten streak following a 2-0 win over Wellington Phoenix, while Western have won four straight games and are also enjoying a five-match undefeated streak on the back of their remarkable 3-2 victory away to Perth Glory thanks to Jordan Lauton’s 95th-minute bicycle kick.

Western could claim history against City, who were 1-0 winners in November’s contest. Should John Aloisi’s side win, it would be the first time in their history that they have claimed five consecutive victories.

Brisbane Roar v Newcastle Jets

Tuesday, January 7 – Suncorp Stadium – 8:00pm AEDT

MATCH CENTRE | BUY TICKETS | HOW TO WATCH

Is this the game Brisbane Roar break through for the first win of the season?

Brisbane are bottom of the standings after suffering a seventh consecutive home defeat – an equal Isuzu UTE A-League record (New Zealand Knights, 2005) having lost 3-1 to two-time reigning champions Central Coast Mariners. Brisbane’s 13th game without a win also set a record for the club’s longest winless streak in Isuzu UTE A-League history.

The Roar have the chance to end their drought when 11th-placed Newcastle Jets come to town in Round 11 on Tuesday night following their 2-2 draw with Sydney FC, which saw them surrender a two-goal lead.

Newcastle have won the past two meetings between the sides, while the Roar last trumped the Jets 3-2 in January last year thanks to a 90th-minute penalty via Jay O’Shea.

Sydney FC v Perth Glory

Wednesday, January 8 – Allianz Stadium – 7:00pm AEDT

MATCH CENTRE | BUY TICKETS | HOW TO WATCH

There will be a reunion at Allianz Stadium when David Zdrilic’s struggling Perth Glory visit Sydney FC in a Round 11 showdown.

Zdrilic returns to Sydney, where he was Ufuk Talay’s assistant in 2023-24 before being appointed head coach by Perth heading into 2024-25.

Spearheaded by Socceroo and captain Adam Taggart, the Glory will be desperate to bounce back from their loss to Western United, which saw them concede twice in stoppage time last week.

Sydney, who are eighth and four points outside of the top six, have only won one of their past five fixtures, though the Sky Blues did dismantle Perth 7-1 in their last clash in April.
