Melbourne City’s teenage star Daniela Galic has left the Liberty A-League premiers to pursue an opportunity abroad in Europe.
The 18-year-old sensation departs City, having played a key role in the club’s Premiership win and run to last season’s Grand Final.
Galic’s exploits saw her crowned the Liberty A-League’s Boost Young Footballer of the Year, while she also took out City’s Rising Star Award.
The teenager’s breakout season saw her called up by the Matildas for the first time as a train-on player in February.
Dubbed the “future of Australian football”, she made 39 appearances for City and scored nine goals to go with nine assists.
“It’s been a pleasure to work with Dani throughout the last two years and she thoroughly deserves this opportunity,” said City head coach Dario Vidosic.
“She has an extremely bright future and with her technical ability, work ethic and love for the game, I’m certain she has what it takes to reach her full potential.
“I, along with the whole club, wish her all the best with the move to Europe and I’m sure we will be welcoming her back to Melbourne as a Matilda before too long.”
In 2023-24, Galic scored a career-high seven goals for Vidosic’s City and supplied six assists.
Her exit comes after the departures of Premiership-winning quartet Julia Grosso, Emina Ekic, Barbara and Young Matildas defender Naomi Chinnama.
Galic said: “I’ve absolutely loved my time here at Melbourne City – it’s been an amazing two years.
“It has been such an enjoyable squad to be a part of and I’ve learnt so much under Dario. I can’t thank him and the support staff enough for how much they’ve helped me both on and off the pitch.
“I’m really excited for what the future holds, and I wish everyone at the club all the best.”
