Coach gives update on champions’ injury list, incl. Socceroos pair

Melbourne City stars Mathew Leckie and Nathaniel Atkinson remain sidelined but the Isuzu UTE A-League champions are set to welcome back another Socceroo this week.

City have been plagued by injuries, with CommBank Socceroos pair Leckie and Atkinson both suffering hamstring issues this season, alongside captain Aziz Behich, Elbasan Rashani and Samuel Souprayen.

While Leckie, Atkinson, Kosovo international Rashani and veteran defender Souprayen still recovering, Behich is in line to make his comeback against Adelaide United on Friday night.

“They’re exactly where they are in terms of their rehab process,” Vidmar told reporters.

“Lecks probably a little bit longer than the others.

“Aziz should be back this week. Sammy and Elba, they’re roughly around two to three weeks to go. They’re tracking really well.

“Nate probably also has a couple of weeks before we get him into a reasonable spot.

“They’re all progressing well. Unfortunately, we’re probably looking at still two-three weeks or something like that.”

City make the trip to Coopers Stadium following the international break amid an unbeaten start in the Isuzu UTE A-League, with eight points from the opening four rounds.
