Melbourne City star Marco Tilio is hopeful he will return from injury in the New Year as he and the Isuzu UTE A-League club take “precaution”.
Tilio is recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in November’s win over rivals Western United, while City head coach Aurelio Vidmar revealed the Socceroos forward suffered a “setback” heading into Saturday’s showdown against Auckland FC.
The 23-year-old – on loan from Scottish champions Celtic – has been plagued by injuries since signing for Celtic in 2023 and he provided an update on his recovery.

“It was tracking well. Got back into team training this week which was good,” Tilio told Paramount+. “Then felt a bit of tightness in the area.
“So just taking precaution with my recent history. Just go week by week at the moment.
“Hopefully in the New Year I’ll be back.”
Giving an insight into his injury rehab, Tilio added: “Usually just activating the area that’s injured then going out on to the pitch and slowing progressing in terms of jogging and sprinting.
“Then back into the gym again. There’s a lot of gym work trying to strengthen that area.”
