Perth Glory striker Adam Taggart has claimed the 2023-24 Isuzu UTE A-League Golden Boot with an impressive tally of 20 goals in just 25 matches.
The 30-year-old pipped Melbourne Victory’s Bruno Fornaroli (18) and Newcastle Jets’ Apostolos Stamatelopoulos (17) to the prestigious award given to the top goal scorer in the competition across the regular season.
Taggart becomes just the fourth player ever to win the award on multiple occasions, adding to his 2013-14 gong to join an exclusive club alongside the likes of Jamie Maclaren (5), Besart Berisha (2) and Shane Smeltz (2).
After heading home to Australia following four seasons abroad in South Korea and Japan, the Glory talisman has enjoyed a stellar return to the Isuzu UTE A-League.
He becomes the first player ever to win the Golden Boot playing for a team who finished last on the table; in fact, previously, no player has claimed the award playing for a side who finished any lower than seventh.
That is reflective of just how remarkable Taggart’s season has been, scoring 42% of the Glory’s entire goal tally for the 2023-24 campaign.
His exploits were also rewarded by Graham Arnold with a recall into the Socceroos setup for two World Cup qualifiers against Lebanon in March, where he made his first appearance for the national team in over a year.
