16-year-old Newcastle Jets forward Archie Goodwin scored his first professional goal in style in the very last game of the 2020/21 A-League regular season.
Goodwin helped his side come from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Premiers Melbourne City with a strike from distance which left Tom Glover no chance of keeping the ball away from the right-hand side of goal.
The exciting young forward received the ball off a Lucas Mauragis back-heel, sized up the target and whipped a strike off his right foot. The shot favoured precision over power but got plenty of both as it curled past Glover into the back of the net.
Buoyed by Goodwin’s magic strike, the Jets pushed on to secure the points needed to jump Melbourne Victory on the table and avoid the wooden spoon.
