CAN ROSS BOSS THE SKY BLUES?
Ross McCormack is the Hyundai A-League’s hottest striker, having scored seven goals in his last six appearances.
But on Friday night he and Melbourne City pit themselves against the competition’s tightest defence when they visit Allianz Stadium to face Sydney FC.
City have won their last two, but the Sky Blues are already looking imperious, winning their last four while conceding just a solitary goal.
The Scot will need all the tricks in his arsenal to unlock a watertight Sky Blues defence.
JETS LOOK TO SOAR WITHOUT ROY
Ernie Merrick is preparing for life without Roy O’Donovan with the Irish striker unlikely to feature until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season.
In his absence, the Jets have still managed to find the net regularly, having now scored in ten successive outings.
The focus will again fall on Dimi Petratos and Andrew Nabbout as Newcastle look to continue a proud home record against the Reds, having lost just one of the last seven against Adelaide at McDonald Jones.
CAN WANDERERS BURST THE DAM IN GOSFORD?
Western Sydney are in a hole, having lost their last three games without scoring and searching for a first win since the opening weekend.
The pressure is already mounting on new boss Josep Gombau with the Wanderers’ performance in their derby drubbing roundly criticised.
But Gosford is a happy hunting ground for Western Sydney, with three straight victories there, during which they’ve found the net eight times.
DANCE OF THE DESPERATE IN DISTANCE DERBY
Neither Perth or Wellington will look back at the first third of the season with any great fondness, with the two sides occupying eighth and tenth places on the ladder.
Both Kenny Lowe and Darije Kalezic have work to do if their sides are to mount a top six challenge
Goals seem likely though with 13 scored in the last two meetings between these two and both having conceded more than any of the other Hyundai A-League sides this season.
CLASH OF THE FORMER SOCCEROOS
By the high standards of their respective football clubs, John Aloisi and Kevin Muscat have overseen mediocre starts to the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season.
Roar and Victory have each won just two of their first ten games, placing pressure on their coaches to find some consistency and return their sides to former glories.
History gives us no guide as to the eventual outcome of this contest with each side having won three of the last nine meetings, with the other three games drawn.
