Unite Round Ins & Outs: Big names return for Sydney Derby including Socceroos GK

"They're a dark horse for silverware" | Total A-Leagues Episode 5

The teams are in ahead of Unite Round in the Isuzu UTE A-League, and there are some big names back in the mix following the international break.

Western Sydney Wanderers have named Socceroos goalkeeper and club captain Lawrence Thomas ahead of Saturday night’s Sydney Derby at Allianz Stadium; Thomas hasn’t yet featured in 2024-25 after a pre-season ankle injury and could make his first appearance against a Sydney FC side bolstered by the inclusion of Joe Lolley for Unite Round.

Douglas Costa has also been named in the squad although Sydney FC head coach Ufuk Talay did concede in midweek a late call would be made on the fitness of the Brazilian, who hasn’t featured for the Sky Blues since a hamstring injury in October.

Josh Risdon has been included in Perth Glory’s squad for Friday night’s clash with Western United and could make his first appearance of the season, while Tim Payne will miss Wellington Phoenix’s clash with Melbourne Victory due to a gluteus muscle injury sustained on international duty.

Read on for all the team news ahead of Unite Round!
