Winning the Isuzu UTE A-League Championship is the aim for Auckland FC as the competition’s newest team prepare for their historic moment this weekend.
Auckland will play their first ever A-Leagues match on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Brisbane Roar to Go Media Stadium for Round 1 of the 2024-25 campaign.
A sell-out crowd is expected for the landmark occasion and Auckland CEO Nick Becker is dreaming big in season one.

“We all have our dreams,” Becker said on the ‘Mike Hosking Breakfast’ program via Newstalk.
“From day one, we’ve always said we’re not here to make up the numbers. We’re super ambitious. We want to be successful.
“I’m not going to say straightaway that we’re going to win it, but that’s what we’re intending to go out and do.
“I want to be in the business end of things at the end of the season.”

Japan icon Hiroki Sakai will captain Auckland, starting against the Roar on Saturday.
As history beckons, Auckland head coach Steve Corica said: “It’s a real history moment.
“You can see by the amount of people that’s going to turn up tomorrow, that it does mean a lot.
“They haven’t had a team here for a long time … and it’s up to us to put on performances for him to keep wanting to come back.
“A full house is going to be amazing. I think the boys will really respond to that.”
