Perth Glory aims to shift some big-ticket games to the new Perth Stadium in coming years as part of the club’s new plan aimed at becoming a leading Hyundai A-League club.
Glory have unveiled their ambitious strategic plan for the next four years – dubbed The Perth Glory Way – which includes winning their first Hyundai A-League title by 2021 as well as the AFC Champions League.
Another major part of their strategy involves moving select games away from nib Stadium to the state’s new facility in Burswood.
“Our ambition is to grow our numbers and play at Perth Stadium,” Glory chief executive Peter Filopoulos told the West Australian Newspaper.
“We are talking about a select few games. You could probably take your games with Melbourne Victory, Western Sydney Wanderers, Sydney FC.
Key Points:
- Glory wants to stage a Hyundai A-League match in South-East Asia within the next four years.
- The club hopes to set up a new training and administrative headquarters in two years.
- FFA chief executive David Gallop said the strategy was a “major step forward” for the club.
“We’d be looking to get crowds in the 20,000s for those games over time. Why couldn’t we do it? We’ve filled Subiaco before. Why can’t we have that ambition again?
“We want to make them games where all of Perth gets behind us. A new stadium brings a novelty factor and you can build up these games to be an iconic factor every year.
“We’re not putting a limit on what we can achieve.”
Other features of the club’s strategic plan is to grow membership to 10,000, as well as have an average attendance of 12,500 for home games.
Glory has also set a target to become a profitable entity within three years, double corporate sponsorship to $4 million annually and increase revenue by a minimum of $3 million each year.
“We will be stronger, unified and a more successful club as a result of this vision,” Glory chairman and owner Tony Sage said.
