Fitness key for hard-working All Stars

If the Foxtel A-League All Stars’ training regiment is anything to go by, fitness will hardly be an issue for the hosts at ANZ Stadium on Saturday.

If the Foxtel A-League All Stars’ training regiment is anything to go by, fitness will hardly be an issue for the hosts at ANZ Stadium on Saturday.

Coach Ange Postecoglou held his fifth training session with his charges on Thursday, with all twenty players emerging from a gruelling ninety minute session unscathed and eager to press their claims for a starting berth.

“It (has been) tiring days, we’ve worked pretty hard, really intense – surprisingly intense,” said midfielder Thomas Broich, who is enjoying a second stint of sorts under Postecoglou, having won back-to-back Hyundai A-League Champions with the All Stars coach at Brisbane Roar.

“We’re going to slow down now a little bit to freshen up.

“I guess overall we can be pretty happy with the physical level so far.”

While the training has been tough physically, the tactical preparations have been comprehensive also.

After back-to-back sessions rehearsing the All Stars formation and tactical plan, Postecoglou has his side as best prepared as possible to claim what would be a famous result against Manchester United at ANZ Stadium.

“Why not? We’ve been working quite hard and the work that we’ve been putting in has been pretty productive,” said defender Nikolai Topor-Stanley, a likely starter for the All Stars in central defence.

“We’re gelling well, as a team, we just have to keep on that theme and hopefully get something out of Saturday night.”
