In more positive news for the Western Sydney Wanderers, midfield import Mateo Poljak has today signed on with the Club until the end of the 2015/16 season.
Impressive midfielder Mateo Poljak has pledged his future to the Western Sydney Wanderers, signing a two-year contract extension with the A-League club on Thursday.
Already contracted for the upcoming campaign, Poljak is now tied to the club until the end of the 2015/16 season in another huge vote of confidence for the A-League newcomers.
The Croatian’s new deal follows the re-signings of attackers Mark Bridge and Kwabena Appiah-Kubi earlier this week.
“I am very happy to be in this club and its environment, obviously I am enjoying it very much which is the reason why I am staying here,” Poljak said.
“I was a bit sceptical when I came to the club as everything was new, but the huge success we had last season made me love this club and the fans and I’m really excited for the seasons ahead.
“This season I know we all want to go one step further- we still have an unfinished job to do in the grand final and hopefully we can achieve that and ACL (AFC Champions League) is coming so that will be a huge experience for us.
“The fans are something completely different to anything I have experienced in my life and I hope I can pay back the joy that I experience from them each game.”
After taking a little while to get settled into the league last season, Poljak became an integral member of the Wanderers outfit which took out the Premiers’ Plate and made the decider.
In all he made 25 appearances for the season and grabbed a solitary goal, in the round 19 win over Adelaide at Hindmarsh Stadium.
“I am delighted that Mateo has decided to extend his contract with us for an additional two years,” Wanderers coach Tony Popovic.
“Mateo only turns 24 next week, so in his position he is still learning and developing as a player and as a man.
“What we know about Mateo is that he has the hunger to continue learning and developing and a desire to achieve.
“Last season was his first in a foreign country, he needed time to settle and time to grow. I think we all saw that the more he settled, the more his performances improved.
“We have seen him grow not only as a player, but as an individual and I know that he still has a great deal of improvement in him.”
