He has just signed a two-year contract with a rival Hyundai A-League club but veteran striker Sasho Petrovski is desperate to end his time at the Central Coast Mariners with a grand final victory.
Petrovski will leave the Mariners for Newcastle at the end of the season after the 33-year-old agreed to a two-year-deal.
Central Coast coach Lawrie McKinna said the former Sydney frontman is still an important member of the club’s attacking brigade as the club strives for a first grand final win.
Petrovski is expected to be one of four strikers in the Mariners squad for the first leg of the minor semi-final against Queensland at Gosford on Friday night.
He missed the club’s final round game against Adelaide but will get game time against the Roar.
“There’s no issue with Sasho,” McKinna said. “We offered him a one-year deal and he wanted two years, he’s got to think of his future and family so there’s no hard feelings.”
“His focus and the club’s focus now is to try and win the grand final. He is well and truly in our plans for the finals.”
“At this stage he will more then likely come off the bench this week. Having someone of his ability and experience coming on in the second half is a huge bonus for us.”
While he can go missing for periods in games, Petrovski is still one of the most potent finishers in the competition.
He has scored some crucial goals in his two seasons at the Mariners and McKinna will be keen for Petrovski to add to his goal tally in the next month.
