Roy O’Donovan has returned to Newcastle Jets on an 18-month deal after securing a deadline day move from Brisbane Roar.
The Irish striker will join the Jets immediately after mutually agreeing to part ways with the Roar, where he has recently found himself out of favour with head coach Robbie Fowler.
The 34-year-old departs the Roar with six goals to his name from 12 appearances in the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season, including a hat-trick against Melbourne City in November.
He will now link with the Jets where he made 25 Hyundai A-League appearances over two seasons – netting 20 goals and featuring heavily in the Hunter club’s run to the 2018 Hyundai A-League Grand Final.

REACTION: ‘Obviously the penalty hurt us.’ – McDonald praises Roar character in defeat
Jets Football Operations Manager, Joel Griffiths, lauded the return of the striker as the club seeks to move off the foot of the Hyundai A-League table.
“We’re delighted to see Roy back in the red and blue and can’t wait to get him back on the ground in Newcastle,” Griffiths said.
“He’s a proven goalscorer in this competition over a long period of time at different clubs, not to mention a fantastic influence and good person to have around the Club
“To have him back on board is a big get for us, and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the side for the rest of this season and next.”

Brisbane Roar CEO David Pourre said, “Roy has provided a number of memorable moments for our fans during his time at Brisbane Roar.
“We would like to thank him for his service to the Club and wish him all the best moving forward.”
O’Donovan’s switch came shortly after he was absent from the Roar’s 1-0 defeat to Sydney FC on Friday night, while the Jets tackle Western United on Saturday in their Round 17 fixture.
O’Donovan commenced his Hyundai A-League career in the 2015/16 season with Central Coast Mariners, where he spent two seasons.
